British Racing Green, built by John Ellis from Rickmansworth in 1993. 26,527 miles only. Dunlop spoked wheels. Tonneau cover. Excellent condition.
It has the registration number of the Cortina that was used as a donor so the registered date is 1978.
Build details:-
The engine was re-conditioned i.e.:-re-bored and the crank re-ground, the cylinder head had steel inserts fitted to make it compatible with unleaded fuel. It had new pistons, shells oil and water pump, cam, followers and oil feed, valves, starter motor, alternator, radiator and a re-conditioned 2 litre carburettor. It was fitted with a new stainless steel exhaust system.
The four speed gear box that was used was a new genuine Ford recondition unit and the prop shaft was new.
When the rear axle was modified it was over hauled.
The braking system had a new master cylinder, flexi hoses, piping, discs, hand brake cables and all the wheel cylinders were over-hauled, a dual servo was fitted and new pads and shoes were used.
The suspension had all the ball joints and most of the bushes replaced and a new steering rack was used with the kit's new column.
A new loom was made and the lights were new Lucas units. The dashboard is walnut and the instrumentation is all VDO (the fuel and speedo were calibrated so as to be accurate and they work).
The upholstery is all leather, carpets leather edged, the hood and torneo cover are double duck, the bumpers, boot rack, spare wheel strap and radiator grille are stainless steel as are a lot of the bolts and most of the screws used in the build.
The car has five Dunlop knock-on spoked wheels and the tyres all have at least 5 mm of tread.
John is a level four N.V.Q.registered Volvo Master technician and took a pride in building this car to what I believe to be a very high standard, not sparing on the cost which was over £11,000.00 in parts (ie; without any labour costs) the intention being to make the car as near "new" as reasonably possible.
In total, over £12,000 has been spent on this car. I am looking for £6750 ovno.

Excellent Merlin For Sale
(Click on each picture to enlarge)
I purchased my Merlin 2+2 in June 2002 at the Harrogate Show, it was in excellent condition but as it was built from a Mk3 1600 Cortina Estate it lacked power and the rear axle ratio was too high, so I decided a complete rebuild was in order.
I acquired a Mk5 2000GL Cortina and completely rebuilt the engine, new rings and shells, stage two gas flowed head with bigger unleaded valves, Piper fast road cam and Vernier Pulley, New upgrade Webber twin 38 chokes and bigger jets, electronic ignition, and electric fan. (Total cost over £2500 on the engine alone), it has been tested on a rolling road at 137BHP.
The 4.11:1 Estate axle has been replaced by the 3.75:1 Mk5 saloon axle, which meant making and welding new suspension brackets to the axle.
Next the gearbox this has been changed for a Sierra 5-speed, the prop shaft also had to be modified as the splines were different, the 1600 4-speed box only has 20 splines and the 2000 or 5-speed box has 23, but the overall length is the same. Then it was the brakes, the pedals were so far away and there was no servo, so I moved the pedals 4 inches towards me and fitted a Fiat Punto servo on the back of the pedal box inside the car. The Mk5 rear axle also has 9 inch drums and the old Mk3 only had 8 inch, I also fitted new discs, pads, shoes, and all new brake pipes.
The front suspension has also been completely overhauled and the front cradle was shot blasted and powder coated, new top and bottom wishbones fitted and swivel joints, all new bushes fitted and track rod ends replaced.
I have also had a stainless steel exhaust made and fitted (it sounds fantastic), fitted new carpets and made and fitted new sliding windows The final touch was to have the bumpers re-chromed.
I have spent over £12,000 on this car. I am looking for £7000 ono.

DAMAGED MERLIN FOR SALE
My Merlin received some minor flood damage last year, but my insurers do not want to repair it and want to write it off for scrap. I have argued for over 6 months that even if i do not want to put it back on the road it is to "valuable" a resource to just scrap, as I felt there were other members/potential owners/builders that might be interested in it.
The leather interior etc are untouched by the flood. They have finally agreed a buyback of £2500.00. I have already repaired the fairly minor damage and the car is running, but it has not been on the road since last July. I am about to start another course of hospital treatment, so am not sure if I want to keep the car or not.
I was going to sell it last year, and had a lot of interest on ebay at over £5000.00 when I had to pull it from the auction due to the flooding. It has an agreed value of £10,000 with insurers and it won best new merlin on its début (1994 I think) and has still done very little mileage. As it has so many extras on it and is basically a sound, running car, I think it a crying shame that the insurers will only scrap it, so, as long as I can get more than the buy-back price, I would be happy to see it go to someone else. Can you help?
I am about to change servers, so my email might be out for a while, although should still get to me, or my day number is 01865 820206, evening 01865 821052.
Hope you can help save this car.
